Senator Joseph I. Lieberman of Connecticut said today that he will run independently if he loses in the statewide Democratic primary next month, a move that further underscored his increasing vulnerability for his support for the war in Iraq and effectively means that he is willing to run two campaigns within three months to keep the seat he has held for three terms.

As long as we are throwing people out, how about giving the boot to our Secretary of State Doug LaFollet? He has been in office for about thirty years and has nothing to show for it except a large pile of cancelled paychecks.
As secretary of state, part of his responsibility is the oversight of elections. Where is he on the whole electronic voting/Dibold voting machine matter?
Early in his tenure as secretary of state, he faced serious challenge and appealed to progressive/liberal types for support with all the right buzzwords and was reelected. He then went on automatic pilot and remains there today.
I have no great love for Joe Lieberman but he is a mod to conservative democrat who 1. can be elected and 2. shows that dems
encompass a wide range of views.
I think we need to clean our own nest before we go telling another state what their best interest is.
Any one who thinks the time for a liberal/progessive era is at hand needs to take few hits off the oxygen bottle.
I just lost a long & realy intelligent response to the previous comment. I just say that LaFolette & Leiberman are not comparable. It's perfectly alright to help out another state by donating to a campaign to unseat a disloyal, stupid whiny baby. What LaFolette does or doesn't do is immaterial to my distain for Leiberman. Plus, if Shumer gives a bunch of money to Joe, in a safely Dem. state, he will really hurt great candidate like Tester in MT who has the chance to replace a corrupt ReThug & there are other candidates with equally good chances. Joe is just a baby who just wants to kiss Bu$hCo & he clearly dispises the Democrats in CT.
I couldn't agree more with the allocation of resources argument. As the saying goes its your nickel and you can spend it as you wish. Every nickel that goes to defeat Lieberman is a nickel that isn't available to defeat that GOP clown in Montana or little Ricky Santorum in Pa. This is right out of the Carl Rove playbook. Anyone remember President Nader and the joy he brought the country?
Do we really want Ted Stevens, Pat Roberts,Arlen Specter and others of their ilk as Committee chairmen or do we want Ted Kennedy, Dave Obey, Jay Rockefeller et al.
I am willing to tolerate a little ideological impurity to accomplish this change.

I agree with everything you said, except to add stupid to your list of adjectives concerning our Sec. of State.
